The exercise, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Faustina A. Abulu, provided financial assistance, educational support and mobility aids to beneficiaries under various components of the Disability Fund.
Addressing beneficiaries at the disbursement ceremony, Hon. Abulu reiterated government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare and dignity of persons with disabilities and ensuring their active participation in national development.
She encouraged recipients to make prudent use of the support provided to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities.
"The Assembly is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the development process and will continue to champion initiatives that empower Persons with Disabilities to live fulfilling and productive lives," she stated.
Under the economic empowerment component, 70 beneficiaries engaged in various income-generating activities received GH¢3,000 each to strengthen and expand their businesses.
The health support package saw three physically challenged beneficiaries receive tricycles to enhance their mobility. In addition, one beneficiary received an artificial leg, another benefited from prosthetic repair services, while a wheelchair, a pair of crutches and a walker were presented to beneficiaries with mobility challenges.
The Assembly also extended educational support to students with disabilities. A visually impaired student received a tape recorder to aid learning, while two hearing-impaired beneficiaries were provided with hearing aids.
An electric bicycle was also presented to a student to facilitate movement and improve access to education.
Furthermore, the Assembly fully funded the school fees and accommodation expenses of a visually impaired student and provided support for 74 students enrolled in special schools to cater for their basic educational and welfare needs.
Hon. Abulu noted that the intervention forms part of the Assembly's broader agenda to promote social inclusion, reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities across the municipality.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Assembly and government for the timely support, describing it as a significant boost to their education, health and economic activities.
The Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly has pledged to continue implementing programmes that empower persons with disabilities and ensure that they are fully integrated into the municipality's development agenda.
