The donation forms part of the MP’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services and addressing the shortage of essential medical equipment in health facilities within the district.
The items presented included hospital beds, delivery and maternity equipment, essential medical supplies, and five Apsonic motorcycles for Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in Gumo, Kaar, Silbelle, Wiiro, and Kandia.
The motorcycles are expected to facilitate healthcare outreach programmes and improve transportation for health workers serving rural communities.
Receiving the items on behalf of the District Health Director, the Sissala West District CHPS Coordinator, Mr. Benin Yakubu, expressed gratitude to the MP for his continuous support to the health sector.
He recalled that the MP had supported the Directorate with health consumables the previous year and described the latest donation as timely, especially as the government pursues its Primary Healthcare Policy, which requires adequate equipment and logistics for effective implementation.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Sukparu, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, said the donation was aimed at improving healthcare delivery and ensuring residents have access to quality medical services.
As part of his continued support to the health sector, the MP also pledged to provide a pickup vehicle for the medical doctor at the Gwollu Hospital to improve mobility, operational efficiency, and service delivery.
In a related development, Mr. Sukparu inspected ongoing road construction works in the district under the government's flagship “Big Push” infrastructure programme.
One of the major projects inspected was the rehabilitation of the Tumu-Gwollu-Fielmua road. Significant progress has been made, including the completion of tree clearing along extensive sections of both sides of the road corridor between Tumu and Gwollu.
According to the MP, the project was initially designed as a 15-kilometre road construction initiative. However, through engagements with relevant stakeholders, the scope of the project has been expanded under the first phase, with the remaining sections expected to be completed in a second phase.
Mr. Sukparu reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the government to ensure that the Sissala West District receives its fair share of development resources, particularly in the areas of healthcare, road infrastructure, and social services.
