Mr. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Old Tafo Member of Parliament, made the allegation when he took his turn in debating the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government, which generated some interruptions from the Majority side of the House.
According to him, in the 2025 budget, the Majority said they were allocating 292 million cedis to purchase 1.3million packs of pad, which equates to GHS225 per pad. Then in the 2026 budget statement, they stated that they have distributed 6.6million pads.
“292 million cedis divided by 6.6 million packs of pad put the price of 1 pack of pad at almost GHS45.
Mr. Assafuah asserted that, it is mind boggling that a government, that prides its credentials in managing the economy well resulting in sanitary pads being sold at GHS15 from GHS25, “how then is the government procuring at such a high cost. How then do you now allocate 292 million Ghana cedis and supply 6.6 million pads?
This, he said, means that the government is buying one pad for GHS45; and they must not be allowed to overspend, because they rode on the back of accusing the previous NPP government of corruption.
