The donation forms part of the Government's nationwide initiative to enhance access to quality education by addressing the shortage of classroom furniture in public schools.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr. Norgbey commended the Government for fulfilling its commitment to improving educational infrastructure and learning conditions.

He said the new desks would help eliminate the shift system in several schools within the municipality, a challenge that has contributed to absenteeism and affected effective teaching and learning.

The MP disclosed that furniture for teachers would also be procured to complement the initiative, adding that the support would become an annual intervention for the Ashaiman Municipal Education Directorate.

He urged pupils to take proper care of the furniture to ensure its longevity and continued benefit to future learners.

Mr. Tsekpo expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the MP for prioritising education in Ashaiman. He assured residents that the desks would be distributed equitably among all public basic schools in the municipality.

He noted that the newly completed Presbyterian Basic School block, a legacy project, had remained without classroom furniture, preventing pupils from fully utilising the facility. According to him, the desks would enable teaching and learning to commence immediately.

The MCE added that the new desks, constructed with durable wood and metal, were more robust than the older wooden furniture and appealed to beneficiaries to maintain them properly.

The Municipal Director of Education, Ms. Gloria Kwakuyi, welcomed the intervention, describing it as a significant boost to education in the municipality.

She said the provision of the desks had led to the immediate elimination of the shift system at Presbyterian Basic School and expressed optimism that the practice would be completely phased out across the municipality by the end of the year.

Following the presentation, the MCE, MP and other officials inspected the ongoing construction of a 12-unit classroom block, another Government-funded project aimed at expanding access to quality education in Ashaiman.
