The event marked African Vaccination Week and Child Health Campaign, highlighting the importance of vaccines and encouraging immunisation.
The week-long activity aims to raise awareness, urge families to vaccinate their children, and promote equitable access to vaccines.
Mrs. Jemima Abena Konadu Mensah, Ga East Municipal Director of NCCE, stressed the need for parents and caregivers to complete vaccination schedules from birth to age five.

Every child deserves a positive future through proper health investments, and a complete
vaccination is both a right and an essential protection measure for all children, she said.

She urged parents to utilise routine immunisations at government facilities to safeguard their
children health.

Madam Susana Seglah, Community Nurse at the Ga East Municipal Hospital Child Welfare
Clinic, described vaccination as a key preventive healthcare strategy against infectious diseases.

She outlined the routine immunisation schedule, starting with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) at
birth, followed by polio and hepatitis B vaccines, and additional six, ten, and fourteen-week vaccinations protecting infants from pneumonia, tetanus, and diarrhoea.

Vaccination builds immunity in children, helping them fight off diseases throughout their lives while saving families from medical expenses, she noted.

Madam Seglah said childhood immunisation fostered herd immunity and protected vulnerable
groups during disease outbreaks.
She assured that vaccines were safe, with only minor or temporary side effects, such as slight fevers or localised pain.

Mrs. Joanna Ampomah Nkansah, Ga East Deputy Director of NCCE, encouraged attendees to
spread awareness among community members unable to attend, emphasising that childhood vaccination was a collective responsibility.

Let us spread the word even beyond Ga East—every child deserves good health, she said.

Child Health Promotion Week, celebrated every May, raises awareness on exclusive breastfeeding, immunisation, and mental healthcare.

This year’s theme is “Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future. Invest in Your Child, Attend
Weighing Regularly.
