With psychological disorders and epilepsy emerging as major concerns, the District is repositioning its health machinery to confront the growing challenge head-on.
Currently, two key facilities, Ave-Dakpa Health Centre and Afiadenyigba Health Centre serve as the district’s frontline points for mental health service delivery. These centers handle assessment, counseling, treatment, and monitoring of affected persons, forming the backbone of the district’s response.
District authorities say the rise in cases signals an urgent need for deeper community engagement, more aggressive awareness creation, and stronger preventive measures. In response, Akatsi North is rolling out a comprehensive package of interventions designed to bring mental healthcare closer to households and schools while reducing stigma.
Planned initiatives include intensified mental health education, home visits to monitor and support affected individuals, crisis intervention services, regular review of ongoing cases, and district-wide school health programmes targeting early detection among children and adolescents.
Additionally, sensitization on the Mental Health Act will ensure residents understand their rights, available services, and how to access help early.
