The initiative is aimed at equipping participants with practical skills in digital entrepreneurship, digital literacy, green innovation, and environmental advocacy to improve their socio-economic opportunities.

The 10-month project also seeks to address challenges confronting women and young girls through an integrated approach focused on empowerment and inclusion.

Mr. George Appiah, Lead Consultant at SOCIPACT Consultancy Services Limited and Project Lead, said assessments conducted in the municipality revealed strong entrepreneurial interest among youth and women despite several existing barriers.

According to him, underserved urban communities possessed significant untapped potential but continued to face challenges such as digital exclusion, unemployment, low participation of girls in education, and weak environmental governance systems.

Mr. Appiah noted that nearly half of the applicants demonstrated low levels of digital competence, with many relying mainly on basic smartphone communication applications, including WhatsApp Business.

He therefore recommended intensified foundational digital skills training and the early involvement of community leaders to enhance participation and ensure the sustainability of the project.

Mr. Appiah also underscored the need to strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems to support long-term impact assessment.

Mr. Musah Iddrisu, Project Coordinator, said baseline findings showed that 78.9 per cent of applicants were women, reflecting growing interest among young women in entrepreneurship and digital empowerment opportunities.

He explained that the project aimed to train 100 youth and women in digital and green entrepreneurship, establish three Girls Digi-Labs, train 150 schoolgirls in digital literacy, and build the capacity of 20 community and faith leaders in environmental governance and climate advocacy.

The project is being funded by KGL Foundation, the corporate social investment arm of the KGL Group, which supports initiatives in youth development, education, health, innovation, and community transformation across Ghana.

Some participants expressed excitement about the training programme, saying it would help improve their digital skills and entrepreneurial capacities.
