According to him, the prompt disbursement of the fund had enabled Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to execute planned projects and programmes within stipulated timelines for the benefit of communities and vulnerable groups.

Mr. Sedik made the remarks at Mankranso during the presentation of start-up items and financial support valued at about GH¢100,000 to 24 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from selected communities in the district.

He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government for the timely release of the funds, which had enabled the Assembly to support the beneficiaries in addition to 62 others who benefited from similar assistance last year.

The DCE reaffirmed his commitment to the implementation of development projects and social intervention programmes to ensure that intended beneficiaries received the needed support.

He assured that more PWDs in the district who were yet to benefit from the programme would be considered during subsequent distributions.

Out of the 24 beneficiaries, one received an okada tricycle, three were presented with deep freezers, while 12 others received start-up capital under the economic empowerment category.

Additionally, two beneficiaries received healthcare support, while six others benefited from educational sponsorship packages aimed at improving their livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.

Mr. Mengisto Opoku Akowuah, the District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, said the department had also initiated measures to address other challenges confronting PWDs in the district.

He noted that the Assembly had engaged the District Disability Federation to address concerns relating to accessibility to public facilities and to ensure the inclusion of PWDs in future development initiatives and programmes.

Mr. Akowuah urged the beneficiaries to use the items and financial support for their intended purposes to enable them to achieve sustainable livelihoods.

He disclosed that the department would closely monitor the use of the support packages to ensure that they were utilised in line with the objectives of the programme.

Mr. Kwame Sukoto, one of the beneficiaries who received the tricycle, expressed appreciation to the Government for the support, describing it as a sustainable intervention that would positively impact their livelihoods.
