Pusiga GES Director Urges Politicians, Chiefs to Stay Off Teacher Transfers

The District Director of Education for Pusiga in the Upper East Region, Francis Abaako, has appealed to chiefs and politicians to refrain from interfering in teacher transfer decisions, warning that the practice is negatively affecting teaching and learning in the district.

Mr. Abaako made the appeal during the commissioning of educational projects by the Pusiga District Chief Executive, Aguuri Haruna Abdul Rahim.

According to the District Director, Pusiga continues to experience a serious shortage of teachers, with the situation being worsened by the frequent transfer of teachers to other parts of the country.

He explained that some teachers sponsored by the District Assembly to undergo professional training often apply for transfers shortly after completing their mandatory service in the district.

Mr. Abaako said the situation was particularly worrying because some of the teachers leave before completing their bond periods, despite the Assembly's investment in their training.

He therefore called on traditional authorities and political leaders to support the Education Directorate by discouraging unnecessary transfer requests and helping the district retain qualified teachers.

The Director also appealed for urgent assistance to reroof schools whose buildings were damaged by windstorms that hit parts of the district in May.

DCE Reaffirms Commitment to Development

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, DCE Aguuri Haruna Abdul Rahim reaffirmed the government's commitment to equitable development and improving living conditions across communities.

He said investments were being made in education, water and other essential infrastructure to address the needs of residents.

The DCE disclosed that several boreholes had been drilled in the district, with 10 boreholes commissioned as part of efforts to improve access to potable water.
