Sekondi Assembly Member Calls for Probe into Alleged Mismanagement of MP’s Common Fund

He said the management of the Fund had raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability, particularly regarding the utilisation of allocations intended to support development projects and address the needs of communities within the constituency.
Addressing a press conference in Sekondi, Mr. Sansiro questioned the utilisation of approximately GH?2.6 million received under the Common Fund, citing several transactions which, in his view, required independent scrutiny.
Among the issues he raised was an amount exceeding GH?600,000 reportedly allocated for monitoring activities, as well as GH?300,402.22 recorded as examination fees.
According to him, the examination fees comprised GH?118,500 allegedly paid to the Member of Parliament, GH?130,902.22 initially paid to an individual and subsequently linked to Keljul Limited, and GH?51,000 paid to GOIL.
He further questioned a payment of GH?56,000 for construction materials and GH?449,985.12 recorded under other transactions, insisting that the supporting documentation and procurement processes required thorough examination.
Mr. Sansiro said the transactions raised questions about compliance with the Public Financial Management Act and applicable procurement laws, and called for a comprehensive audit to establish whether the funds had been properly utilised.
He urged the relevant oversight institutions to investigate the expenditure, verify the supporting records and ensure that any breaches identified were addressed in accordance with the law.
He stressed that public funds must be managed transparently and accounted for, adding that resources allocated for constituency development should translate into tangible benefits for residents.
Mr. Sansiro lamented what he described as the prolonged neglect of the seven electoral areas within the Sekondi Constituency by successive Members of Parliament.
He said the constituency deserved legacy projects similar to those undertaken during the tenure of former MP Albert Bosomtwi-Sam, rather than what he described as repeated disappointments by successive representatives.
When contacted by telephone for his response, the Sekondi MP, Mr. Blay Armah Nyameke, declined to comment on the allegations, saying: "Go ahead with whatever information Sansiro has provided."
