Addressing assembly members, heads of departments, government appointees and other stakeholders, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Edmund Agboh said the municipality remained largely peaceful throughout 2025, despite challenges related to illicit drug use, violent crime, fire outbreaks and the activities of land guards.
To address these concerns, the Assembly worked closely with security agencies and intensified public education campaigns, particularly in areas such as the Abokobi Lorry Station, cemeteries and school communities in Taifa and Haatso, where drug abuse had become a growing concern. The campaigns were conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission.
On the financial front, the Assembly exceeded its revenue target, generating more than GH¢16.8 million in Internally Generated Funds (IGF) in 2025, representing over 108 per cent of the projected target and a 33 per cent increase compared to 2024.
Mr. Agboh noted that the Assembly also achieved 91.6 per cent of its planned activities during the year, reflecting effective service delivery and prudent management of resources. In addition, the municipality received more than GH¢20.5 million from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), marking a substantial increase over the previous year's allocation.
The MCE highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the municipality, including the rehabilitation of classroom blocks, maintenance of streetlights and refurbishment of the Haatso maternity clinic. He also announced that a contractor had been engaged to complete the Ga East Municipal Assembly Conference Hall to enhance administrative operations and public participation.
Road improvement works were undertaken in communities such as Dome, Kwabenya, Haatso, Taifa, Ashongman and Abokobi, where grading, pothole patching and drainage construction projects helped improve accessibility and mitigate flooding.
Social welfare programmes also featured prominently in the Assembly’s activities, with thousands of residents benefiting from public education campaigns on child protection, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence. More than 60 persons with disabilities received financial and educational support through the Disability Fund.
In the health sector, the Assembly implemented awareness campaigns on cervical cancer, mental health and tuberculosis, while also carrying out mass deworming exercises in schools.
Environmental sanitation efforts included clean-up exercises, drain desilting, fumigation and food safety inspections across the municipality.
Looking ahead, the Assembly plans to invest in major projects in education, health, sanitation, drainage and road infrastructure in 2026. Planned initiatives include the construction of classroom blocks at Abokobi Presby and Kwabenya Atomic Basic Schools, road rehabilitation under the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP), expansion of drainage systems and the rollout of the 24-Hour Clean Ga East Programme.
The Assembly also intends to modernize revenue collection through digital systems, promote entrepreneurship and provide support to local businesses through the Business Advisory Centre.
Mr. Agboh called on assembly members, traditional leaders, development partners and residents to continue working together to drive the municipality’s development agenda.
He expressed confidence that through collaboration and shared commitment, Ga East would become a more prosperous, inclusive and resilient municipality for future generations.
