The items were procured through the 5 percent allocation for Persons with Disabilities from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and included chest freezers, poly tanks, industrial ovens, industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, laptops, printers, and other business support equipment.

Beneficiaries were grouped into categories including equipment support, education, health assistance, and business development based on their individual needs and areas of interest.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive, Freeman Tsekpo, said the intervention demonstrates government’s commitment to improving the living standards and economic independence of persons with disabilities.

He urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the items and grants provided, stressing that the support was intended to create sustainable livelihoods and immediate economic relief.

Hon. Freeman Tsekpo further cautioned against requests for cash support alone, explaining that the Disability Fund is primarily aimed at economic empowerment through productive ventures and skills development.

“The economic support must bring about immediate and positive transformation,” he emphasized, while directing the Disability Fund Management Committee to ensure strict due diligence in the selection and support process.

A representative of the National Council on Persons with Disabilities and Chairman of the Disability Fund Management Committee, Joshua Addy, commended the Assembly for supporting the beneficiaries and encouraged recipients to utilize the items responsibly to improve their livelihoods and become self-reliant.

The distribution exercise which was facilitated by Vida Adjomani, forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to strengthen social protection, inclusion, and economic opportunities for persons with disabilities in Ashaiman.
