The Minister praised the Assembly for complying with the guidelines governing the use of the 20 per cent Common Fund allocation designated for legacy projects, noting that the funds had been used to complete outstanding developments in the areas of health, education and other essential services.
Mr Eduamoah made the commendation at Gomoa Ekroful when he addressed chiefs and residents of the Gomoa Central District during an 'Accounting to the People' forum organised to promote transparency, accountability and deepen Ghana's decentralisation process. He explained that the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, had prioritised the completion of projects initiated by the previous administration to ensure that such investments were completed and made available for public use.
According to him, funds for the first and second quarters of 2026 had been released to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to support development projects in healthcare, education, road infrastructure and the provision of potable water, among other priority areas.
The Regional Minister, however, cautioned District Chief Executives, Coordinating Directors and other Assembly officials against delaying the implementation of development projects. He warned that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) could transfer development funds left idle in Assembly accounts back to the government. He stressed that public resources must be put to productive use to ensure that government programmes and policies translated into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.
Mr Eduamoah further reaffirmed the government's commitment to completing outstanding infrastructure projects, particularly the Agenda 111 health facility at Gomoa Afransi. He said the government had decided to complete the facility to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services in the district.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Hackman Kobena Aidoo, outlined some of the Assembly's interventions and explained how the Common Fund had supported development in the area. He disclosed that the Assembly utilised 10 per cent of the Common Fund received in 2025 to construct and expand two health facilities at Gomoa Ekwamkrom and Gomoa Aseibu, as part of efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and bring essential services closer to residents.
Mr Aidoo also announced that Assembly Members had unanimously approved the relocation of the proposed 24-hour economy market from Gomoa Afransi to Gomoa Beseadze due to land-related challenges at the initial site.
On education, the DCE said the Assembly had commenced several projects and distributed dual desks to basic schools to improve classroom conditions and support effective teaching and learning. He added that boreholes had been drilled in various communities to improve access to potable water, with plans to extend the intervention to other communities that continued to face water supply challenges, and assured residents that the Assembly would continue engaging traditional authorities and community members to identify their development priorities, particularly in education, healthcare, roads and water provision.
The forum was chaired by the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI, and attended by divisional chiefs, queen mothers, heads of departments and other stakeholders. In his remarks, Obrempon Nyanful Krampah XI commended President John Dramani Mahama for the ongoing road infrastructure projects in various parts of the Central Region, particularly in Gomoa West and Gomoa Central.
He urged chiefs and residents to support government development initiatives and work together with the relevant authorities to promote infrastructure development and improve living conditions across the districts.
The engagement provided an opportunity for residents and traditional leaders to interact with government representatives and discuss development priorities, while reinforcing the importance of accountability and the effective use of public resources.
