Akatsi South Assembly Mobilises Residents for Massive Clean-Up Exercise

The exercise, which is expected to take place from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., will bring together residents, institutions, traders, transport operators and other stakeholders across the municipality.

The initiative forms part of the nationwide cleaning exercise declared by the government for July 10 and 11, 2026, in flood-affected regions. The exercise is aimed at clearing choked drains, removing refuse and debris, and improving the free flow of water ahead of anticipated heavy rains.

Residents and stakeholders in Akatsi South are expected to participate actively by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drains and removing accumulated waste from public spaces.

The Assembly is expected to work with relevant institutions and waste management operators to ensure the effective collection and disposal of waste generated during the exercise.

The initiative is also intended to promote public awareness of the need for proper sanitation and responsible waste disposal, particularly as indiscriminate dumping of refuse and plastic waste can block drainage systems and contribute to flooding.

The Assembly has therefore called on residents, businesses, traditional authorities, institutions and other stakeholders to support the exercise and make environmental cleanliness a shared responsibility.

The municipality-wide exercise is expected to complement ongoing efforts by the Assembly to improve sanitation, protect communities from flooding and create a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
