Bono East minister rounds up tour of eastern enclave

The Bono East regional minister Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi has rounded up a three day tour of the eastern enclave of the region with a day’s visit to Atebubu-Amantin.

The minister who had earlier visited the Sene East and West as well as the Pru East and West districts interacted with staff of the municipal assembly, the two traditional councils in Atebubu and Amantin and the Zongo chief of Atebubu.

The Regional Minister also visited the Atebubu senior high school to see the progress of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations.

Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi urged staff of the Atebubu Amantin municipal assembly to eschew political partisanship and attend to their duties with professionalism. He also took the opportunity to address some concerns raised by the staff.

The minister urged the Atebubu traditional council to release lands to interested individuals and institutions under the ‘Feed Ghana’ agriculture initiative adding that the programme has the objective of ensuring food security, availability of raw materials and jobs for people.

He said maintenance works on the Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji road has been awarded on contract whiles problems of inner roads within the municipality will also be addressed adding that he is collaborating with the Member of Parliament for Atebubu-Amantin to resolve the perennial water problems facing communities within the traditional area.

Hon. Antwi urged Nananom to take a centre stage in the fight against the Fulani herdsmen menace.

The Adontenhene of the Atebubu traditional area and acting President of the traditional council Nana Kwabena Kyere III raised issues of roads, water, health, education and streetlights as some problems facing communities within the traditional area.

The Zongo chief of Atebubu Sarki Dufaila Imoro Osman called for the creation of what he called the ‘greater Atebubu’ region to comprise the five districts of the eastern enclave of the existing bono east region to make for easy accessibility from one district to the other.

The Hon regional minister consoled the Zongo community on the loss of their late chief imam Abdul Baki Imam Sani who passed away about a fortnight ago after a short illness.

He praised the Sarki Zongo for his sterling leadership that has ensured peace in his community.

Nana Serwa Bonsu, queen mother of the Amantin traditional area expressed the displeasure of her people at the inability of the police to arrest and deals with assailants from Akokoa a neighboring community who attacked residents of Amantin over a disputed land at Akokoa which has been a subject of litigation between the 2 communities.

She warned that if no concrete steps are taken by authorities in the next few days to address the issue, her people might be forced into reprisal attacks which may not augur well for the peace of the municipality.

The Regional Minister pleaded with the queen mother and the people to continue exercising restraint and directed the Municipal Chief Executive as chairman of the municipal security committee to initiate the necessary processes to ensure the matter gets to him for the necessary attention.

The minister was accompanied by the Bono East regional executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress led by chairman Unas Owusu, some regional heads of institutions and security chiefs.

Also present were the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Thomas Masud Musa Ayaaba, the Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Joseph K.B Tang and constituency executives of the NDC.
