Though Mr. Wussah commended the communal development spirit among residents, he lamented the rate at which sanitation malpractices were increasing.

He stated that some of the residents put human excreta into polythene bags and disposed of them in the open, especially at the back of houses, a situation he described as worrying and shameful.

He added that those responsible for such acts sometimes dispose of the polythene into a public toilet he had provided for the community.

According to him, he collaborated with some community elders to build a toilet facility for the people in his electoral area and engaged the community members to make use of it.

He however said: “But I cannot ascertain why some of them chose to do what they are doing; it’s frustrating.”

He said the toilet facility he built was for the children in the area, but it was also serving the elderly, yet the unfortunate action continues.

He noted that when the residents continue to dump the polythene into the latrine, it will be difficult for the truck to dislodge it when it is full.

This, he said, has triggered the setting up of a committee, which has begun patrolling and arresting offenders of sanitation rules as well as those who bathe in the river.

The assemblyman appealed to the residents to take sanitation of the area seriously to avert any outbreak of cholera or any other sanitation-related diseases in the community.

Apart from the toilet facility built by the assembly member, there is a bigger facility with about 30 to 50 seats that is under construction.

Some residents said that the toilet facility was started by the Member of Parliament in the area in 2022.
