The donation, officially presented during an exhibition and awareness campaign on waste management, formed part of measures designed to support the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) efforts to improve waste disposal practices throughout the city.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Assembly, Mr. Victor Kotey, Deputy Director of Waste Management at the AMA, praised the students for their proactive contribution to environmental stewardship and described the gesture as commendable, particularly because it was initiated by young students who understand the importance of maintaining a clean city.
Mr. Kotey stated that the project aligns with the AMA’s climate action plan, which promotes inclusiveness, youth participation, and community ownership.
He added that the Assembly would soon roll out climate education programmes in schools and viewed the students’ initiative as a valuable entry point for engaging more young people in sanitation campaigns.
The Executive Secretary to the Mayor of Accra, Mr. Alfred Frimpong, who represented him, commended the students for their commitment to keeping the city clean.
He encouraged them to remain ambassadors for environmental protection and underscored the importance of public health in achieving sustainable urban development.
Presiding Member of the AMA, Hon. Musah Ziyad, also applauded the students and prayed for wisdom and continued impact in their advocacy.
He noted that their decision to extend the donation beyond their school to benefit others demonstrated compassion and civic responsibility.
The students, in explaining the rationale behind their project, said they were motivated by growing concerns over waste mismanagement in Ghana and the need for practical solutions.
They expressed appreciation to the AMA for supporting their campaign and pledged to continue working closely with city authorities to address sanitation challenges.
“Our goal is to raise awareness and encourage everyone to play a part in building a clean, safe environment for all,” they said.
