Fishermen Receive Relief Support following Senya Bereku Incident

The government has presented seven Yamaha 40 horsepower outboard motors to six fishermen who were victims of the unfortunate sea incident that occurred on Thursday, 26th February 2026, at Senya Bereku in the Awutu Senya West District.

An additional outboard motor was also handed over to the community to be used during emergency situations, aimed at strengthening safety measures and improving rapid response on the sea.

The presentation was made by the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana. The gesture was carried out through the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency, Hon. Gizella Agbotui-Tetteh, and the District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West District, Hon. Eghan K. Nyamekye.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting fishing communities, particularly in times of distress. She emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and livelihoods of fisher-folk, noting that the intervention forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the fisheries sector.

The beneficiaries, together with the chiefs and people of Senya Bereku, expressed profound gratitude to the government and all stakeholders for what they described as a swift and timely gesture. They noted that the support would help restore their livelihoods and bring relief to affected families.
