The project forms part of the West Africa Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP) – LOT 1, which focuses on the development of selected inland valleys in the Ashanti Region to support sustainable agricultural production.
The sod-cutting ceremony brought together traditional authorities, farmers, officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and representatives of the Sekyere East District Assembly.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, underscored the significance of the initiative, which seeks to enhance the productive use of inland valleys and improve farmers’ resilience to changing weather conditions.
When completed, the Anunuso Water Conservation Scheme is expected to provide a sustainable water source for farming throughout the year, enabling farmers in Brofoyedu and surrounding communities to extend their growing seasons, improve crop yields and increase their incomes.
The initiative is also expected to contribute to local food availability and strengthen the resilience of farming communities by reducing their dependence on rainfall for agricultural production.
