The GH¢4.1 million project is expected to be completed within 16 months and will provide a reliable year-round water supply to farmers engaged in the project.

The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in collaboration with the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly under the Food System Resilience Programme (FSRP).

The FSRP is aimed at improving agricultural production and water management, strengthening food security, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and providing favourable conditions for rice cultivation in the area.

Mr Opoku announced that the 2026 National Best Farmer would receive a brand-new pick-up vehicle valued at GH¢1.2 million, a tractor and an all-expenses-paid research trip to Italy as part of measures to motivate farmers.

He said the government would continue to invest in agriculture through the provision of infrastructure and other support to increase productivity, enhance food security, improve incomes and create sustainable livelihoods for farmers.

Mr Opoku urged citizens, particularly the youth, to take a keen interest in agriculture and venture into the sector to improve their incomes and contribute to national economic growth.

Mr Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, District Chief Executive (DCE), commended the government and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for selecting the district for the project.

He said the project would open up new opportunities for residents and improve agricultural activities in the area.

Mr Alenbilla pledged the Assembly’s support for the smooth execution and successful completion of the project to ensure that it achieved its intended purpose.

Nana Gyedu Kumanin IV, Amakyebarehene, who chaired the ceremony, also commended the government for the initiative and expressed optimism that the project would benefit farmers and residents in the area.
