Atiwa East Assembly Distributes Fertilizer to Farmers to Boost Crop Production

The Atiwa East District Assembly has distributed fertilizer to selected farmers across the district as part of efforts to increase agricultural productivity, improve crop yields and strengthen food security.

The intervention forms part of government’s broader support programmes aimed at providing farmers with essential inputs to enhance productivity and improve the livelihoods of farming households.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the District Chief Executive for Atiwa East, Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim, apologised to the farmers for the delay in making the fertilizer available.

He said the support was intended to complement the efforts of farmers and enable them to achieve improved yields during the current farming season.

Hon. Owusu Ntim reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to developing the agricultural sector, stressing that agriculture remains a major contributor to the socio-economic development of the district.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the fertilizer judiciously and strictly for its intended purpose. He also encouraged them to adopt improved farming practices, work closely with Agricultural Extension Officers and take advantage of government interventions aimed at increasing agricultural productivity.

The District Director of Agriculture also advised the farmers to apply the fertilizer according to recommended rates and methods for their respective crops.

He urged them to seek technical guidance from Agricultural Extension Officers to ensure the effective use of the input and maximise crop yields. He further encouraged farmers to maintain close collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and embrace improved agricultural practices.

The beneficiary farmers expressed appreciation to the government and the District Assembly for the support but appealed for the timely distribution of agricultural inputs in subsequent farming seasons.

According to them, early distribution would enable them to plan effectively and maximise the benefits of such interventions.

The exercise brought together farmers engaged in the cultivation of various crops across communities in the Atiwa East District.

The Assembly expects the intervention to contribute to increased crop production, improved household incomes and enhanced food security, while strengthening collaboration among farmers, the Assembly, the Department of Agriculture and other stakeholders.
