Afigya Kwabre South launches 'Tree for Life' Initiative

Afigya Kwabre South district capital, Kodie, came alive on Thursday, June 5, 2025 as community leaders and residents gathered at the District Assembly's forecourt to witness the launch of the 'TREE FOR LIFE ' initiative, a major step in reforestation drive by the government aimed at restoring Ghana's forest enclave and degraded landscapes.

The event was graced by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Pearl Patricia Ankrah, the District Coordinating Director, Mrs Yvonne Naboo, and the Forestry Commission Human Resource Officer for the Offinso enclave, George Amoah.Also present were heads of departments, Assembly Members, and staff of the Assembly, among other others.

In her welcome address, Mrs Yvonne Naboo welcomed the gathering and declared the purpose of the event initiated by the government. She called for public support for its success by planting trees and taking good care of them to conserve our lands.

Madam Patricia Ankrah in her brief remarks lamented the alarming rate of deforestation through galamsey activities and highlighted its negative impact on the environment.

She emphasized the need for Ghanaians to embrace tree planting to preserve and heal the land adding, when the last tree dies, the last man also dies as trees are the source of oxygen vital for the survival of life.

Speaking on behalf of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Amoah reiterated the critical roles trees play in the ecological balance and tasked community members to observe June as tree-planting month.

He urged citizens to monitor and take personal responsibility for nurturing the trees they would plant to sustain our lands to serve as legacy for the next generation. The H.R.O. asked participants who could not be supplied with the tree seedlings to visit any Forestry Commission office within the Ashanti Region for free allocation.

To mark the occasion, the DCE, the Coordinating Director, the Forestry Commission H.R.O. and other dignitaries each planted a tree at the Assembly premises symbolizing a collective commitment to a greener future.
