The commemorative event, held on Wednesday, June 25, 2026, at the Mount Mary Demonstration School at Adjikpo Yokunya, brought together a high-powered delegation of municipal officials, security agencies, education stakeholders, and community leaders to mark the commencement of the municipality's participation in the nationwide reforestation initiative.
Leading the delegation, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel Affadu, described the Tree for Life Project as a critical intervention aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, restoring degraded ecosystems, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among citizens.
Addressing participants, Mr. Affadu urged residents to embrace tree planting as a shared responsibility, emphasizing the indispensable role trees play in sustaining human life and preserving the environment.
Quoting the popular saying, "When the last tree dies, the last man on earth will die," he stressed the urgent need for collective action to protect the ecosystem and mitigate the effects of climate change.
He further encouraged households, schools, institutions, and community groups to obtain tree seedlings from the Forestry Department and plant them in homes, school compounds, public spaces, and communities to ensure a greener and healthier future for generations to come.
Also speaking at the event, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, pledged the education sector's full support for the initiative. He assured the Municipal Assembly that schools across the municipality would actively participate in the exercise and promote environmental education through practical tree-planting activities.
According to him, instilling environmental consciousness in young people is essential to building a sustainable future and nurturing responsible citizens.
The event climaxed with the symbolic planting of trees by dignitaries and stakeholders, reaffirming the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality's commitment to environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable development.
The 2026 Tree for Life Project forms part of government's broader agenda to promote afforestation, protect biodiversity, and encourage citizen participation in safeguarding Ghana's natural environment.
