Nkoranza Municipal Assembly Inaugurates Disaster Management Committee

The Nkoranza Municipal Assembly has officially inaugurated a 15-member Disaster Management Committee, chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Godfred Dapaa, to lead disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts within the municipality.

In line with the National Disaster Management Organisation Act, 2016 (Act 927), the committee is mandated to formulate comprehensive plans to prevent and mitigate disasters in its area of authority. It will also maintain close liaison with the Regional Disaster Management Committee in developing these plans and perform other functions as directed by the Council or the Director-General.

The committee comprises the following members:

• The Municipal Chief Executive (Chairman)

• A representative of the Traditional Council

• The Member of Parliament for the municipality

• The Municipal Director of NADMO (Secretary)

• The Chairperson of the Municipal Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Risk Management

• The Municipal Director of Health

• The Municipal Police Commander

• The Municipal Fire Commander

• The Municipal Director of Agriculture (MOFA)

• The Municipal Information Officer

• The Municipal Director of Education

• The Municipal Environmental Officer

• The Municipal Planning Officer

• The Municipal Social Development and Welfare Officer

• The Municipal Director of Forestry

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Worlanyo, who presided over the inauguration on behalf of the MCE, urged members to harness their collective expertise to effectively tackle the municipality's challenges.

He noted that the selection of members was based on the diverse skills and experience each individual brings to the assembly, ensuring a holistic approach to disaster management.

Mr. Worlanyo also stressed the urgent need for amendments to the Assembly's by-laws, pointing out that robust legal backing is essential to empower the authorities to sanction offenders and enforce disaster prevention regulations effectively.
