Addressing participants after the exercise, Hon. Ankrah cautioned residents against the indiscriminate disposal of waste into gutters, stressing that the practice contributes significantly to environmental pollution and public health challenges.

She warned that individuals found dumping refuse into drains would be dealt with in accordance with existing sanitation laws and encouraged residents to report offenders to the appropriate authorities.

The DCE noted that the improper disposal of waste, particularly into gutters, increases the risk of disease outbreaks such as cholera and other sanitation-related illnesses. She therefore urged residents to adopt proper waste management practices to safeguard public health.

Hon. Ankrah explained that her return to Atimatim was to assess the level of cleanliness maintained following a previous clean-up exercise conducted in the area. She expressed disappointment that, despite earlier efforts, some parts of the community had reverted to unsanitary conditions.

According to her, maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment and active participation of all residents.

Also speaking at the event, the Assembly Member for the Old Atimatim Electoral Area, Hon. William Kusi, indicated that public education and awareness campaigns on environmental cleanliness were ongoing within the community.

He encouraged residents to support efforts aimed at keeping Atimatim clean and healthy, emphasizing that proper sanitation is essential for preventing disease outbreaks and promoting the well-being of the people.
