Mr Paul Kodwo Kwaw, the Assembly Member for the Kikam and Asemko Electoral Area, made the appeal at Kikam, stating that the Ellembelle District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) would organise community outreach programmes, public education campaigns, blood pressure screening exercises, and media engagements throughout the month of May.

He explained that the initiative forms part of a global campaign spearheaded by the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote awareness on the prevention, early detection, and effective control of high blood pressure.

This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Measure Your Blood Pressure, Control It, Live Longer.”

Mr Kwaw urged residents to take the exercise seriously, stressing that hypertension often presents no visible symptoms and that early detection is essential in preventing complications.

He advised the public to regularly check their blood pressure, reduce salt intake, exercise frequently, maintain a healthy body weight, avoid excessive alcohol consumption and smoking, adhere to prescribed medication, and attend regular medical reviews.

The Assembly Member also encouraged residents to effectively manage stress and adopt healthier lifestyles to reduce the risk of hypertension and related health conditions.

The campaign is being spearheaded by the Ellembelle District Health Directorate.
