Amoamang Community Introduces Strict By-laws to Curb Teenage Pregnancy, Drug Abuse

The Amoamang community in the Nsuta Traditional Area of the Sekyere Central District has enacted new by-laws aimed at addressing pressing social challenges and promoting development.

Chief Nana Kwarteng Amoani, leading the Amoamang Traditional Council, convened with community members to tackle key issues affecting the area, including inadequate school infrastructure, lack of toilet facilities, and the absence of a central market.

New By-laws to Regulate Community Life

The Traditional Council has instituted strict regulations to guide community conduct and foster development:

Stray Animal Control: In collaboration with the Assembly member and committee members, the council will enforce the impoundment of stray animals. Community members must keep their animals confined from 3pm to 6pm daily, and overnight until the next day. Offenders will face a GHC 200 fine, with animals sold after three days of non-compliance.

"These measures will boost the local economy and ensure community cleanliness," stated Nana Kwarteng.

Student Curfew and Restrictions: The council has banned students from attending wake-keeping events during funerals. Additionally, students are prohibited from being outside between 7:30pm and dawn.

Addressing Social Vices

Nana Kwarteng expressed concern that wake-keeping and late-night movements have contributed significantly to social problems in the community.

"These activities have created avenues for teenage pregnancy, weed smoking, and tramadol abuse," he lamented. "That is why we have enforced these strict new laws."

Under the new regulations, both students and their parents will face penalties for violations.

Appeal for Government and NGO Support

Following the announcement, Nana Kwarteng Amoani appealed to the government, Sekyere Central District Chief Executive Hon. Samuel Somuah, philanthropists, NGOs, and individuals for assistance in key development projects:

· Construction of a new market

· School building improvements

· Evacuation of the community's longstanding dumping site

· Completion of the toilet facility, which is currently at 90% completion

Hon. Frimpong Abdul Razak, the Assembly member for the area, along with his committee members, have thrown their full support behind the Traditional Council's new by-laws.
