The donation exercise, forms part of the Assembly's commitment to strengthening its relationship with traditional authorities and supporting the preservation of Ghana's rich cultural heritage.
The items presented included bags of maize, fish, bottled water, drums of palm oil, cartons of assorted beverages, boxes of whisky and schnapps, as well as an undisclosed cash donation from the Municipal Chief Executive.
Making the presentation at the Nungua Traditional Council, Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh explained that the Assembly's support was intended to assist in the preparation of kpokpoi—the traditional meal made from maize and palm oil that is central to the Homowo Festival celebrations.
He noted that the Assembly could not celebrate such an important cultural occasion without extending its support to the traditional leaders, whose role in promoting peace, unity, and development within the municipality remains invaluable.
The MCE also expressed his appreciation to the traditional authorities for their continuous guidance and assured them that he would continue to seek their counsel in addressing issues affecting the municipality and improving the welfare of residents.
Speaking during the visit, the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. Lawyer James Enu, reaffirmed his commitment to addressing security concerns within the municipality. He assured the traditional leaders that efforts were underway to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful environment before, during, and after the Homowo festivities.
The traditional leaders expressed gratitude to the Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for their continued support, describing the donation as a timely contribution that would contribute to a successful and memorable 2026 Homowo Festival.
