The beneficiary farmers are drawn from all 11 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region. Speaking at a ceremony in Techiman, the regional capital, Mr. Dumelo stated that each Assembly would receive 10,000 birds for onward distribution to selected farmers. He urged the MMDAs to closely monitor the birds to ensure the programme achieves maximum impact.

In addition to the birds, the government will supply 48,833 bags of feed, 63,000 doses of antibiotics, and 44,000 units of glucose to support the poultry farmers in managing the birds effectively.

Mr. Dumelo reiterated the government’s commitment to revitalising the poultry industry, reducing the country’s heavy reliance on imported chicken, and creating employment opportunities along the poultry value chain.

He further announced that under the Feed Ghana Programme, farmers would soon benefit from subsidised fertiliser, seedlings, and other agricultural inputs. He advised beneficiaries of the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative to properly care for the birds to ensure the success of the intervention.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, commended the initiative and expressed optimism that farmers would take full advantage of the support to help transform the poultry sector.

He noted that the programme has the potential to ease economic pressures on citizens and tasked officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to intensify monitoring and supervision to guarantee its success.
