The colourful ceremony, held on the school’s campus, was filled with cultural performances, speeches, awards, and homecoming activities that highlighted the remarkable journey of the institution since its establishment in 1964.
Speaking at the anniversary durbar, the Headmaster, Mr Eric Nyarkoh, described the 60-year celebration as a moment of pride and renewal.
He noted that the school, which started as a modest institution with a handful of students, had grown into a respected centre of learning that continued to train future leaders across Ghana.
“Over the past six decades, Assin Manso SHS has remained committed to providing quality education built on discipline, hard work and moral training.
“We celebrate our achievements, but we also acknowledge the need to invest in new facilities and innovative teaching methods to meet modern demands,” Mr Nyarkoh stated.
Guest speakers, including officials from the Ghana Education Service, commended the school for its consistent academic performance and contribution to national development.
They urged the government, old students and corporate partners to support ongoing projects such as classroom expansion, dormitory renovation, and the enhancement of science laboratories.
The anniversary was also a nostalgic moment for members of the Old Students Association (AMOSU), to return in their numbers to mentor current students and donate items to support teaching and learning.
The group presented computers, learning materials and pledged to provide furniture to ease congestion during classes.
Traditional leaders of Assin Manso, praised the school for being a pillar of development in the community, producing teachers, engineers, nurses, journalists and other professionals who continued to uplift the image of the area.
Students capped the celebration with cultural drumming, poetry recitals, choral music and an exhibition showcasing historical photographs of the school’s journey from 1964 to 2024.
Mr Nyarkoh called for unity and stronger stakeholder support to position the school for greater achievements in the next decade and beyond.
“Today, we celebrate 60 years of resilience and progress,” he said, adding that “tomorrow; we begin the next chapter, one that promises even greater heights for Assin Manso Senior High
School.”
The event ended with the cutting of a 60th anniversary cake, symbolising the enduring spirit of the institution and its commitment to nurturing generations of students for years to come.
