The election, which was held after an earlier unsuccessful attempt, saw Hon. Blessing Tretsu secure 24 votes, while Hon. Michael Ossae obtained 11 votes. Two ballots were also rejected.

However, no candidate attained the constitutionally required two-thirds majority needed for election.

The election has therefore been adjourned for 10 working days to allow for consultations and fresh nominations.

The adjournment is expected to provide members of the Assembly with an opportunity to engage in further consultations and agree on a candidate who can secure the required votes to assume the position.

The Presiding Member plays an important role in the administration of the Assembly, including chairing meetings and guiding deliberations on policies and development issues affecting the municipality.
