The projects, numbering about fifteen, and spanning across various sectors of development such as health, education, economy among others, are at various stages of completion.
According to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, two of the district’s major market projects at Asutuare and Dodowa have also been identified for immediate attention.
These two projects, which were originally initiated by the past government under the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), had stalled for several months due to funding challenges. However, Mr. Dordoe disclosed in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com that the assembly had completed all assessments and has now allocated resources from its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to ensure their timely completion.
“The two major markets were started by CODA but they were not finished, the Dodowa and Asutuare markets. We have also captured them under the legacy projects and are making the necessary financial commitments to see them completed”, he stated.
In addition to the legacy projects, the soft-spoken DCE noted that the assembly is also exploring opportunities under the government’s 24-hour economy market initiative, a flagship programme aimed at promoting local economic growth, job creation, and decentralization through round-the-clock market operations.
He revealed that the assembly has submitted proposals to convert the emerging “Ayikuma Yam Market” into a 24-hour economy market. The site, covering approximately five acres, has been assessed and deemed suitable for the initiative, which is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
“The ministry is currently handling the prototype design and costing for the project. We have submitted the site plan and completed a survey of the area. We’ve also been instructed to submit the necessary documents to the Regional Coordinating Council,” Hon. Dordoe explained.
Once implemented, the 24-Hour Economy Market, are expected to operate continuously, providing opportunities for expanded trade and employment while stimulating local economic development.
Hon. Dordoe reaffirmed the government’s broader commitment to equitable and inclusive development across districts, noting that the Assembly is still working tirelessly to help create equal opportunities for all.
