Assembly Begins Preparatory Works for Proposed 24-Hour Market

The exercise, led by the Metropolitan Mayor, George Justice Arthur, forms part of efforts to support the government's 24-hour economy agenda and enhance commercial activities within the city. According to the Assembly, officials have begun site inspections and consultations with key stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
The proposed market is expected to provide a conducive environment for traders and businesses while increasing revenue generation for the Assembly. The initiative is also intended to stimulate local economic growth and expand employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
Speaking on the project, the Mayor reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to transforming Cape Coast into a vibrant commercial and tourism hub through strategic infrastructure investments and inclusive development programmes. The market project aligns with the Assembly's broader development agenda outlined in its 2026, to 2033 Development Plan.
The eight-year development plan seeks to promote economic growth, improve infrastructure, strengthen social services, enhance environmental sustainability and improve governance across the metropolis. The plan is expected to serve as a roadmap for accelerating socio-economic development and improving the living conditions of residents.
