The programme forms part of the Committee's ongoing engagement with local authorities aimed at enhancing governance, promoting knowledge sharing and strengthening oversight mechanisms within the local government system.
Addressing participants, the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Queenster Sawyerr, emphasized the critical role of effective local governance in accelerating national development and improving service delivery at the grassroots level.
She noted that the engagement reflects the Committee's commitment to deepening decentralisation by creating platforms for dialogue, collaboration and mutual learning between Parliament and local authorities.
According to Hon. Sawyerr, regular interactions with MMDAs are essential for identifying challenges, monitoring progress and ensuring that development interventions align with the needs of local communities.
A key highlight of the programme was the presentation of progress reports by Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who provided updates on ongoing development projects within their jurisdictions.

Participants described the engagement as a valuable platform for sharing experiences, discussing common challenges and exploring practical solutions to enhance local governance.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to deliver effective services and drive sustainable development across their respective jurisdictions.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen collaboration between Parliament and local authorities while promoting transparency, accountability and improved development outcomes for communities in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
