Ahafo Regional Minister joins farmers to mark 2025 Regional Farmers’ Day celebration

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Mrs. Charity Gardiner, on Friday, 5th December 2025, joined farmers, traditional authorities, agricultural stakeholders, and residents of Sankore to celebrate the 2025 Regional Farmers’ Day.

The event, held under the theme “Eat Ghana, Feed Ghana and Secure the Future,” highlighted the critical role of farmers in ensuring food security, driving economic growth, and shaping a sustainable agricultural future for Ghana.

The District Chief Executive for Asunafo South, Benjamin Yinkah, in his welcome address, expressed profound appreciation to dignitaries, stakeholders, and community members for gracing the celebration. He described hosting the 2025 Regional Farmers’ Day as a great honour for the district, reflecting recognition of the region’s agricultural potential.

He commended farmers across the district and region for their resilience amidst challenges such as climate variability and rising input costs. He emphasized that this year’s theme aligns with the government's renewed commitment to promoting local food production and consumption while strengthening sustainable food systems.

Hon. Yinkah highlighted ongoing interventions, including improved seedlings, enhanced extension services, modern farming technologies, and training programmes, undertaken by the Assembly in collaboration with MoFA and development partners. He assured farmers of continuous support aimed at boosting productivity and improving livelihoods. He concluded by welcoming all participants and wishing them a successful and memorable celebration.

The Chairperson for the occasion, Nana Ogyedom Paabo Katakyie Appiah Kubi IV, Omanhene of Sankore Traditional Area, expressed gratitude for Sankore being selected to host this year’s regional celebration. He commended farmers for their hard work and encouraged the youth to embrace agriculture and agro-processing as viable ventures.


Reflecting on the theme, he urged Ghanaians to support locally produced food and called on government and partners to improve farmers’ access to credit, seedlings, mechanization, and markets. He further 
thanked the Ahafo Regional Minister and President John Dramani Mahama for the significant reduction in illegal mining activities in the enclave, noting that the improvement has protected farmlands and water bodies, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity.

He concluded by congratulating all award-winning farmers and pledging the continued support of traditional authorities toward sustainable development in the region.

The Ahafo Regional Director of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Kingsford Nyame, commended the government for prioritizing agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth. He praised farmers for their dedication to ensuring food security and emphasized the significance of this year’s theme, urging the public to continue supporting local food production.

He recognized the efforts of the Asunafo South District Assembly, development partners, and private actors for providing improved seedlings, machinery, and extension services to farmers. Mr. Nyame congratulated all award-winning farmers and encouraged them and others to continue adopting modern farming techniques to enhance productivity and strengthen food systems across the region.

In her address, Mrs. Charity Gardiner expressed her delight at celebrating the 2025 Regional Farmers’ Day with the people of Sankore. She praised the resilience and dedication of farmers in the Ahafo Region, stressing that their contributions remain central to food security and national development.

She acknowledged that despite numerous challenges including climate change effects, high input costs, and post-harvest losses farmers continue to work tirelessly to feed the nation, a commitment she said deserves the highest commendation.


Hon. Gardiner highlighted major government interventions, including the 
Nkoko Nketenkete Poultry Initiative, which aims at boosting poultry production, creating employment, and reducing chicken importation. She also referenced the recent launch of the Vegetable Development Project, popularly known as Yeredua, which focuses on vegetable farming, irrigation development, and improved market access.

She emphasized that these flagship initiatives reflect President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to modernize agriculture and make it more attractive and profitable for the youth. She encouraged farmers to fully utilize the opportunities provided through these programmes.

Touching on the theme “Eat Ghana, Feed Ghana and Secure the Future,” she urged Ghanaians to patronize locally produced food and support farmers as essential contributors to the nation’s progress.

She concluded by congratulating all farmers, especially the award winners for their hard work, innovation, and dedication to strengthening the agricultural sector.

The event featured an anti-bushfire performance, educating the public on the dangers of bushfires to farmlands and the environment. Guests also toured various agricultural exhibits, which showcased improved seeds, modern farming technologies, agro-processed products, and innovative techniques introduced by local farmers.

The climax of the celebration was the awards presentation, honouring outstanding farmers at both the district and regional levels. At the district level, the overall award went to Mr. Ali Mahama from the Asunafo South District while at the regional level, the prestigious overall best farmer award was presented to Madam Margaret Ntobi from the Asutifi South District, Kenyasi. Awardees received certificates, prizes, and recognition for their exceptional contribution to agriculture.

The 2025 Regional Farmers’ Day celebration in Sankore concluded successfully, leaving farmers and stakeholders inspired and motivated. The event strengthened partnerships among government agencies, traditional authorities, development partners, and the farming community, reaffirming their collective commitment to promoting agricultural excellence and securing Ghana’s future through sustainable food production.
