The District, which remains predominantly agrarian, continues to benefit from programmes such as the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative and other agricultural support schemes that provide farmers with improved seeds, extension services and technical assistance.

Agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy, with maize, yam, cassava and plantain serving as the major food crops cultivated in the area. Cashew production has also emerged as a significant economic activity, creating employment opportunities and generating income for thousands of farming households across the district. According to the Banda District Assembly, more than 5,000 farmers are engaged in cashew cultivation, making the district one of the leading cashew-producing areas in the Bono Region.

Government efforts to promote commercial agriculture have further boosted production levels. In support of cashew development, the District Assembly previously distributed thousands of improved cashew seedlings to farmers under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme, aimed at inc reasing productivity and improving livelihoods.

Agricultural officers in the district continue to educate farmers on modern farming practices to improve yields and build resilience against climate-related challenges. The interventions have contributed to increased maize and cashew production, strengthening household incomes and supporting local economic growth.

The District Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and development partners to promote sustainable agriculture and improve market opportunities for farmers.
