He made the remarks at the 41st Sissala East Municipal Farmers’ Day celebration held at Challu, a community near Tumu.
Addressing chiefs, farmers, development partners and dignitaries, the MP said farmers day represents, “The strength in the hands that till the land” and the resilience of people whose efforts sustain households and the national economy.
Mr Bataglia noted that farming remains the identity and heritage of the Sissala East, adding that, “Eery grain harvested carries a story of sacrifice, resilience and hope.”
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” he emphasized that empowering farmers with improved seeds, fertilizer, irrigation, market access and financial support is essential to securing the country’s food future.
The MP acknowledged current challenges faced by farmers, including low produce prices, high cost of inputs, poor transportation and unpredictable weather.
He described the situation as a real and painful challenge that had discouraged many farmers.
However, he assured residents that decisive action is being taken by the government to stabilize incomes.
He announced that the government has released GH¢100 million and allocated an additional GH¢200 million to the National Buffer Stock Company to mop up surplus food crops.
He added that all educational institutions from basic to tertiary have been directed to source food locally; a move he said will guarantee steady market access, boost rural incomes and strengthen food sovereignty.
Mr Bataglia further revealed that Sissala East has been selected among the first 50 districts to benefit from the new Farmer Service Centre initiative, which was expected to enhance access to modern farming tools and improve productivity.
He also disclosed that the Municipality will receive 10 kilometres of feeder roads to ease transportation of produce to reduce post-harvest losses.
The MP expressed gratitude to traditional authorities and stakeholders whose support helped secure Sissala East’s inclusion in the Big Push Project.
He said the road infrastructure under the project will significantly expand markets for maize, groundnuts, soybeans, vegetables and other produce once completed.
Mr Bataglia congratulated the award winners and praised all farmers in the Municipality saying, “Every farmer in Sissala East is a champion.”
He called for unity, cooperation and shared learning to drive agricultural transformation.
He urged farmers and stakeholders to recommit to building a food-secure Municipality where agriculture becomes a profitable and dignified career and where no child goes hungry.
Aside from the Prizes for award winners the MP donated two motorbikes to some farmers, plastic chairs to several women groups and other farming equipment to motivate the farmers.
