At the grand durbar of the 2025 Kwabena Yam Festival, themed "Abease Rising; Unity in Diversity, Harvesting A Brighter Future," the Bono East Regional Minister issued a strong directive regarding the conduct of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) towards traditional leaders.

The Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, highlighted chieftaincy disputes as one of the most significant challenges hindering development in the region. He urged the Vice President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, and the House as a whole, to take decisive action to resolve these long-standing issues.

Referring to the festival's theme of unity and development set by the Paramount Chief of Abease, HRM Obrempong Kru Takyi II, the Minister appealed directly to him: "Since Obrempong has themed his festival on unity and development, he should try to bring all the chieftaincy cases currently in court to the traditional council chamber for amicable resolution."

The Minister then delivered a stern warning to MMDCEs. He emphasized that any MMDCE who shows disrespect to a chief within the region will face consequences. "I shall inform His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, and that MMDCE shall be removed," he stated unequivocally.

In his address, Paramount Chief Obrempong Kru Takyi II echoed the call for unity, urging the people of Abease to come together to develop the traditional area. He expressed hope that the festival's theme would translate into tangible progress, stating that the Abease Traditional Area is in dire need of development and positive change.

The Traditional Council also seized the opportunity to appeal to the Regional Minister for support in recruitment drives, particularly into the security services. The Paramount Chief pleaded for the Minister's assistance in securing opportunities for the youth of Abease, arguing that they deserve such chances.

Responding to this appeal, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pru West, Hon. Samuel Agyapong, advised and warned the youth to desist from hard drugs. He cautioned that substance abuse would not only destroy their lives but would also disqualify them during screening processes for security service enlistment.
