The event, which marked the second phase of the initiative, saw the distribution of equipment to 320 youth beneficiaries who have transitioned from vocational trainees into emerging entrepreneurs.

Dignitaries present at the programme included the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong; the Coordinating Director, Mr. Abdul Rahman Salam; traditional leaders (Nananom); the Regional Director of the Business Resource Centre (BRC), Mr. Nuhu Salifu Dimah; the Municipal Director of the BRC, Mr. Ernest Kisi Bosompim; members of the clergy; associations of local traders; and the general public.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Ernest Kisi Bosompim explained that the “Business in a Box” initiative, a partnership between GEA and the Mastercard Foundation, seeks to create dignified jobs for Ghana’s youth. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made since the project was launched in Tano South.

He noted that some beneficiaries have been trained in gari processing, equipping them with modern cassava processing techniques to improve their livelihoods. He added that artisans such as masons, mechanics, and carpenters have also received tools and equipment to expand their businesses.

Mr. Bosompim reiterated the Agency’s commitment to promoting economic growth and improving livelihoods in Tano South by supporting individuals, groups, and local businesses.

Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, stated that the Assembly remains committed to practical youth empowerment through the initiative. He expressed joy that the programme is delivering tangible results and giving hope to young people in the municipality.

He emphasized that the initiative, supported by the Ghana Enterprises Agency and the Mastercard Foundation, aligns with the government’s “Reset Agenda” aimed at national development. According to him, while many young people complete vocational training, they often lack the capital to acquire tools—an issue the project directly addresses.

Hon. Frimpong urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment and cautioned them against selling the items, stressing that long-term income generation far outweighs short-term financial gains.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Mrs. Margaret Ansah, noted that the distribution of start-up kits reflects a broader vision to transform Ghanaian youth into self-reliant entrepreneurs capable of driving economic growth.

She explained that the initiative seeks to ensure young people secure meaningful and dignified employment in trades such as masonry, tiling, catering, and other vocational fields.

Mrs. Ansah further indicated that the programme forms part of a nationwide strategy to reach all regions by 2027, ensuring that both formal and informal sector youth acquire sustainable skills. She assured beneficiaries of continued support through grants and loans to help scale their businesses.

She announced that a new phase of registration and training will commence in June, targeting additional trades such as baking, hairdressing, and dressmaking, and urged beneficiaries to remain committed and hardworking.

Delivering the keynote address, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Mrs. Charity Gardiner, stated that under the administration of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, government is focused on delivering tangible development outcomes.

She commended the Ghana Enterprises Agency for securing donor support and successfully implementing the “Business in a Box” initiative, describing it as a key driver of youth and women empowerment in the region.

Hon. Gardiner assured that the programme would be expanded significantly to reach more beneficiaries and called on residents to take advantage of the opportunities provided.

She also urged unity and community support for leadership, noting that the success of leaders directly impacts regional development.

Representing Nana Asibuo Bonsu II, Paramount Chief of the Bechem Traditional Area, Nana Osabarima Asubonteng Ankobeahene expressed appreciation to the Ghana Enterprises Agency and the Municipal Assembly for the initiative.

He emphasized the importance of balancing academic education with vocational skills, stating that artisans and craftsmen are essential to national development.

He encouraged the youth to take full advantage of the opportunity, avoid social vices, and focus on mastering their trades to secure a better future.
