Wenchi Municipality Takes Flight as Wenchi Municipal Assembly Distributes 10,000 Birds Under Flagship Poultry Programme

A new wave of economic empowerment is sweeping across the Wenchi Municipality as the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, led by Municipal Chief Executive Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, has distributed 10,000 hybrid poultry birds to residents under the government’s transformative Nkok? Nkitinkiti Programme.

The large-scale distribution marks a decisive step toward reviving Ghana’s poultry industry, reducing reliance on imported frozen chicken, and empowering households to generate sustainable income through local poultry production.

Addressing beneficiaries drawn from across polling stations in the constituency, the MCE emphasized that the initiative is designed to place poultry farming directly into the hands of communities, institutions, and households. She noted that beyond providing birds, the programme will deliver technical support and extension services to help farmers build viable poultry enterprises capable of transforming livelihoods.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader Feed Ghana Programme, spearheaded by President John Dramani Mahama, which aims to distribute more than three million birds nationwide to over 60,000 farmers and households. The goal is clear: create jobs, stimulate agribusiness growth, strengthen food security, and restore Ghana’s capacity to produce and consume its own poultry.

Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi called on agricultural officers, community leaders, and local stakeholders to actively monitor and support beneficiaries to ensure the long-term success of the programme.

With thousands of birds now in the hands of determined farmers, Wenchi is positioning itself at the forefront of Ghana’s poultry revival—unlocking new opportunities, boosting incomes, and driving a bold agenda for local economic transformation.
