Launching the initiative, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin, announced that the programme would directly benefit 200 residents, with a total of 10,000 broiler birds allocated to the municipality. Each beneficiary will receive 50 birds to help establish or expand small-scale poultry enterprises.

The short launch ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, also marked the commencement of the distribution process, which the MCE indicated would be completed within five days. She stressed that the selection of beneficiaries was carried out without political considerations.

“This is a government policy meant to benefit all citizens. The selection of beneficiaries was therefore done on a non-partisan basis,” she emphasized.

Madam Faustilove Appiah Kannin further disclosed that the next phase of the programme would introduce layer birds into the municipality, urging beneficiaries to fully embrace the initiative to build sustainable poultry businesses. She noted that the programme’s success would significantly improve the availability and affordability of poultry products in Obuasi.

The MCE expressed gratitude to the President and the government for the initiative and cautioned beneficiaries to take the project seriously. “Do not disappoint the government. Make this project a success,” she urged.

Ahead of the distribution, beneficiaries participated in a one-day capacity-building workshop to equip them with basic poultry management skills. Officials from the Municipal Department of Agriculture also announced that Agricultural Extension Officers would be deployed across various zones to provide technical support and monitor the progress of the birds to ensure the programme’s success.

The event was attended by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, the Presiding Member, Mr. James Adabour, Assembly Members, and staff of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.
