She spoke during a high-level ECOWAS–UEMOA ministerial meeting in Dakar, where officials approved a joint plan to speed up the return of stolen African cultural items.

Hon. Gomashie highlighted that the digital creative economy—including influencers, animators, videographers, musicians, storytellers, and virtual reality artists—is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world. She said linking heritage restitution with youth creativity could provide jobs for millions, boost cross-border collaborations, and generate digital exports.

She added that such initiatives could also strengthen tourism, film, music, and the creative arts while helping formalize new media careers. The minister emphasized that reclaiming Africa’s cultural past can inspire young people to build industries that celebrate the continent’s history, identity, and future potential.
