NJSMA observed the 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration-2025

The 41st national farmers’ day celebration was observed by New Juaben South Municipal Assembly led by his able leadership Chief Executive, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital at the forecourt of the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre at Adweso on Friday, December 5, 2025.

The programme recorded the presence of officials from security services, agencies, ministries,

political members, traditional authorities, clergies among others. Also, a decorated display of chorography and a cultural dance occurred at the event to honour the farmers for working hard in ensuring the availability of food in the municipality and the country at large

The theme for the 2025 farmers day celebration is known as ‘’Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future’’ of which a 31-year-old farmer, Amos Nayirimol from Koforidua Oboutabiri adjudged the overall Municipal Best Farmer. The farmer was able attain 22 acres of maize, 0.5 acres of cabbage, 4 acres of coconut, cassava 4 acres, birds 60 pcs, rabbit 14 acres and other farm produce. Also, Madam Mary Marilyn Keston from Atekyem mentioned as the Municipal Best woman farmer with an acre of cocoa, 200 pcs of broilers, 180 pcs of layers, goat, birds etc.

Nana Tete Pimpong II (Adweso Hene and Akuapem Mponoa Hene) who chaired the occasion welcomed and commended the dignitaries and other participants for honouring the celebration of the gallant farmers who help feed the nation. He then congratulated the farmers for their industrious contributions in ensuring famine free in the country, he therefore urged them to continue their good work to grow more food for Mother Ghana.


Addressing the gathering, Municipal Director of Agriculture, Madam Tharzia Nimako Akwetey, stated that, agriculture as the backbone of Ghana Economy is contributed by the hard work and dedication from farmers who toil daily to feed the country, ‘’agriculture is not just about farming; it’s about building a thriving economy by increasing production, processing, and adding value to our crops and animals’’ she added.

In job creation, Madam Tharzia Akwetey noted that, with a dedication to fund agriculture, employment opportunities can be created for the youth and women as the agriculture value chain offers numerous opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation. She announced that a talented young farmer from New Juaben South has been selected as an awardee for the National Best Youth farmer, therefore, she encouraged the youth and women in the Municipality to take advantage of the opportunities in agriculture and Agribusiness.

For his part the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, said food security is not merely an economic indicator but a pillar of national stability, health and prosperity, therefore the need to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions of farmers and all actors within the agricultural value chain.

On FEED Ghana programme, MCE mentioned that the 2025 budget allocates GHC 1.5 billion to support Ghana’s Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). He was optimistic that the funding seeks to enhance food security, increase local production and create jobs. He also mentioned of the Akoko Nketen nketen project which was launched to support household and small-scale farmers through production of improved poultry breeds.

He further lauded the role of youth and women in agriculture, as their participation is a sign hope for the future. He assured the Assembly will continue to create enabling environments for agribusiness, encourage investment in storage and processing.

MCE did congratulate the awardees by expressing his gratitude to farmers who contribute to the progress of the municipality.
