The meeting, which took place at the District Assembly Hall, brought together stakeholders in the hospitality sector to deliberate on measures aimed at protecting the image of the district and safeguarding the wellbeing of the youth.
Described as the first engagement of its kind in the history of the district, the meeting focused on reports indicating that some hospitality facilities are increasingly being used as centers for prostitution and other immoral activities. The issue, according to the Assembly, has been highlighted in several official reports, including PRCC, EXECO, and sub-committee reports.
Addressing participants, Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim expressed concern over the trend and cautioned operators against allowing their facilities to be used for activities that negatively affect young people and tarnish the reputation of the district.
He stressed that while the Assembly prefers dialogue and cooperation, stricter enforcement measures would be introduced should operators fail to comply with regulations and directives aimed at curbing the situation.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for participants to raise other pressing concerns affecting their operations, including persistent power fluctuations in some communities and poor network connectivity across parts of the district.
Responding to the concerns, the DCE assured participants that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had already conducted assessments in the affected areas and was working towards addressing the power challenges to improve electricity supply within the district.
The Information Services Department, which witnessed the engagement, reaffirmed its commitment to serving as the “eyes and ears” of government at the grassroots level by continuing to educate and inform the public on government policies, developmental issues, and important activities within the district.
The engagement forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to promote discipline, social responsibility, and sustainable development within Atiwa East District.
