He made the call during a presentation ceremony at Kete Krachi, where 72 persons with disabilities received items and financial assistance under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) support programme for PWDs.
The beneficiaries were presented with refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, cassava grinding machines, baking ovens, agrochemicals, and cash support to enhance their livelihoods and promote self-reliance.
Mr. Addo said the intervention formed part of the Government’s efforts to improve the welfare of persons with disabilities by equipping them with the tools and resources needed to engage in productive economic activities.
He emphasized the need to ensure that the items reached their intended beneficiaries and were utilized effectively to achieve the objectives of the programme.
“These items are meant to support beneficiaries in improving their livelihoods and becoming economically independent. Caretakers and family members must therefore ensure that the support is used for the purpose for which it was provided,” he said.
Mr. Addo noted that the misuse of the items could undermine efforts aimed at improving the living conditions of persons with disabilities and diminish the impact of the intervention. He therefore appealed to families and guardians to provide the necessary support and supervision to help beneficiaries derive maximum benefit from the assistance.
The Chairperson of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations in Krachi West, Madam Christiana Alegi Addai, commended the Government and the Assembly for the support, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance, noting that it would help expand their businesses, increase their incomes, and strengthen their ability to live independently.
