The approval is expected to bolster the Ministry’s efforts in enhancing transport infrastructure and service delivery across the country.

This followed the presentation of a report by Mr Isaac Adjei Mensah, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament, on the floor of Parliament.

In his remarks, Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister of Transport, highlighted ongoing innovations at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), particularly the introduction of new vehicle registration plates designed to improve efficiency in service delivery.

Contributing to the debate, Mr Kennedy Nyarko Osei, Ranking Member of the Committee and NPP MP for Akim Swedru, expressed concern over the state of the railway sector, noting that government currently owed railway workers about GHS 34 million.

Mr Patrick Yaw Boamah, NPP MP for Okaikwei Central, expressed worry over proposal to increase the passenger service charge from GHS 5 to GHS 100.

Responding, Mr Nikpe clarified that the passenger service charge for domestic flights has remained at GHS 5 since 2014 and would not be altered.

He further explained that the proposal under consideration related to external flights, with charges set at $100 for economy class and $150 for business economy class passengers.

The proposed fees would be subjected to Fees and Charges Act, Mr Nikpe added
