Upon receiving reports of the worsening situation at Abasraba (Moni Paado), an area located barely 100 to 200 meters from the lagoon, the Municipal Chief Executive  for the area Rev. ZionBa Atta Mensah and Chairman of the Municipal Disaster Management Committee,   immediately moved to the scene alongside personnel from Effutu NADMO and the Municipal Assembly.

During the assessment, the MCE encountered an elderly woman trapped by the rising floodwaters. In a remarkable act of leadership and compassion, he personally carried her on his back to safety.

The rescue has drawn widespread admiration and serves as a powerful reminder of the need for collective action in addressing the municipality's recurring flood challenges. While the Effutu Municipal Assembly has undertaken a number of drainage and flood mitigation projects over the years, stakeholders acknowledge that much more remains to be done.

Critical interventions such as desilting drains, dredging waterways, enforcing demolition of structures obstructing watercourses, and strengthening disaster risk reduction through effective spatial planning are essential to achieving lasting solutions.

This incident should inspire renewed commitment from government agencies, community leaders, development partners, and residents to support disaster preparedness efforts and invest in resilient infrastructure that protects lives and property.

As Effutu continues to grapple with perennial flooding, the actions of Rev. ZionBa Atta Mensah have demonstrated the importance of responsive and hands on leadership in times of crisis.
