The exercise forms part of the MCE’s commitment to effective waste management and the Assembly’s measures to curb the spread of communicable diseases resulting from poor sanitation.
The Assembly mobilised earthmoving equipment, including an excavator, payloader and 20-cubic-load tipper trucks, to evacuate decades-old refuse heaps that had posed persistent health risks to residents.
The exercise was carried out in Nkonsia, Jensoso, Subinso No. 2 and Nkyeraa Twiesiase, where accumulated waste was cleared to improve environmental conditions and promote healthier communities.
The evacuation exercise adds to several sanitation initiatives being implemented by the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, including the National Sanitation Day and monthly general clean-up exercises.
The Assembly has also distributed more than 100 waste bins and provided the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit with four cargo tricycles (Motorkings), two 150-horsepower Cross Country Apsonic Jungle motorbikes, wheelbarrows, Wellington boots, hand gloves, long brooms, shovels and pickaxes, among other equipment.
These interventions are aimed at strengthening the Assembly’s capacity to manage waste effectively, promote environmental cleanliness and improve public health across the Wenchi Municipality.
