NJSMA organizes town hall meeting to promote youth inclusion in governance

As part of efforts to enhance transparency and accountability, the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly (NJSMA) has held a town hall meeting aimed at fostering dialogue between citizens and city management. The meeting, which took place on May 30, 2025, was organized under the theme “Youth Inclusion in Governance: Key to Achieving Sustainable Development.”

The event brought together a wide array of stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Edward Abazing; the Municipal Deputy Director, Mr. Godson Assiamah; the Municipal Agric Director, Madam Tharzia Nimako Akwetey who doubled as the chairperson for the occasion; the Municipal Planning Officer, Madam Iris Dalaba; the Presiding Member, Hon. Nana Yaw Debrah; Religious Leaders, Assembly Members, Technocrats of the Assembly, Representatives from the Botnar Foundation and Star Ghana Foundation, and numerous youth and citizens of the Municipality.

Mr. Edward Abazing, the Municipal Coordinating Director, delivered the welcome address, expressing appreciation to all participants and commended the youth for attending in large numbers. He emphasized that the forum was primarily organized for the youth and reiterated the purpose of the meeting—to promote transparency and citizen engagement in local governance. He highlighted the Assembly’s vision to make local governance more inclusive, participatory, and youth-centered, urging active involvement from the younger generation.

In his keynote address, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye extended a warm welcome to attendees and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana for his nomination as MCE. He outlined his responsibilities, which include coordinating development programmes, promoting social equity, and improving the living conditions of residents.

Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye emphasized that the town hall meeting was a platform for open communication between the Assembly and the citizenry, particularly the youth. He described the youth as a vital asset to drive development because of their energy, creativity, and aspirations.

He further outlined several initiatives implemented by the Assembly to support youth development and community improvement, including:

Local Economic Development

• Supporting entrepreneurship through targeted training and access to startup capital.
• Creating jobs through technology enhancement programs.
• Boosting agricultural productivity through improved technological methods.
Social Development
• Expanding access to healthcare by establishing CHPS compounds.
• Improving education through better infrastructure and provision of learning materials.
• Enhancing sanitation through the provision of clean water sources such as boreholes and waste disposal facilities like dustbins.
Environmental and Infrastructure Development
• Intensifying public education on sanitation, including gutter desilting and discouraging indiscriminate waste disposal.
• Promoting road safety through regular road maintenance and clear road markings.

The town hall meeting provided a crucial platform for youth to voice their concerns, share ideas, and engage directly with leadership, reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to participatory governance and sustainable development
