Birim North Launches 24-Hour Economy Market Project as DCE Cuts Sod at New Abirem

The Birim North District has taken a major step toward economic transformation following the official launch and sod-cutting ceremony for the Government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Market Project at New Abirem.

The landmark event, held at the New Abirem Lorry Park on June 23, 2026, brought together traditional authorities, government officials, market leaders, youth groups, religious bodies, and residents to witness the commencement of a project expected to redefine commerce and job creation in the district.

Leading the ceremony, the District Chief Executive for Birim North, Hon. Hakeem Antwi Abdul, described the market project as a game-changer that will unlock economic opportunities, create sustainable employment, support local businesses, and stimulate round-the-clock commercial activities within the district.

According to the DCE, the 24-Hour Economy Market forms part of government’s broader agenda to boost local economic development through strategic investments that empower traders, entrepreneurs, artisans, and small-scale businesses.

The ceremony was chaired by Obrempong Kwesi Amoh Kyeretwie I, Abiremhene and Jasihene of the Kotoku Traditional Council, who lauded the Government and the Birim North District Assembly for bringing the transformative project to the district. He expressed confidence that the facility would accelerate commercial growth, attract investment, and position New Abirem as a thriving economic hub in the Eastern Region.

Stakeholders at the event described the project as a major milestone in Birim North’s development journey, noting that it has the potential to improve livelihoods, expand market access, and strengthen the district’s local economy.

The commencement of the project signals a new chapter of growth and prosperity for Birim North as government pushes ahead with the implementation of its flagship 24-Hour Economy agenda across the country.
